Simple method of coffee-shrub biochar-ozonolysis

Biochar, the pyrolysis product of carbon-rich biomass, renders climate benefits because it helps to sequester carbon in soil. Biochar also improves soil health increases nutrient retention capacity topsoil, improving aggregate stability and water holding capacity. These contribute agricultural production biochar provides a good substrate for nourishing root growth plant health, thereby contributing nation’s food security. Biochar’s contribution depends on quantity type oxygen-containing functional groups. groups are determinants interactions with nutrients redox reactions. This study aims develop simple economical method improve biochar’s agronomic traits through ozonolysis. We evaluated ozonolysis reaction time oxidize washed unwashed coffee shrub (WCSB CSB, respectively). After exposure WCSB CSB ozone at different intervals, data from both collected by FTIR-ATR spectra showed that bands increased intensity 3331 3441 cm-1 (O-H band) 1585 (carbonyl group band). Besides, we observed decrease pH an increase specific conductance soluble organic content elapsing ozonolysis, demonstrating effectiveness oxidation surface. The E4/E6 ratio suggests saturated products process due breakdown labile formation acidic oxygen bonds double carbon. Furthermore, results indicated is unnecessary wash before subjecting process.
